Messi's Statue In Argentina Vandalised Again

Messi's Statue In Argentina Vandalised Again

The Barcelona forward's bronze sculpture on Paseo de la Gloria was vandalised on Monday, chopped off at the ankles with the body left on the pavement.

Now, it doesn't make sense that any Argentine would want to destroy the statue of the its national figure, but some things nowadays are just hard to explain why.

In Paseo de las Glorias in Buenos Aires there is a statue of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, and on Sunday night it became the victim of a vandalism attack, with both legs being removed.

While he has won four European Cups, eight league titles, five Ballons d'Or and three Club World Cups, Messi has not won a World Cup.

Messi fired Argentina to the World Cup finals earlier this year as he scored a hat-trick in a critical qualifier against Ecuador, when it seemed that they might not reach Russia 2018 at all. Police said the motive was unclear.

Messi's best chance came in Brazil, when he guided the Albiceleste to the 2014 final against Germany, only to have their hearts broken in stoppage time following a goal by Mario Gotze.
