Luis Suárez scores twice as Barcelona thrash Deportivo La Coruña

"We go into next week's game (against Real) feeling very happy and the best way to prepare for a game of that level is to win and feel confident and we are feeling great", Barca coach Ernesto Valverde told reporters.

Barca lead the standings on 42 points, six ahead of Atletico Madrid and eight in front of third-placed Valencia.

Messi and Luis Suarez both had golden chances to add to the scoring late on, but the former fired wide from a central position before the latter hit the post in the 84th minute.

They are 11 clear of Real, who have a game in hand after missing this weekend's action due to playing in the Club World Cup, where they beat Brazilians Gremio 1-0 in Saturday's final.

Andres Iniesta is back for Barcelona against Deportivo La Coruna this evening, but Sergio Busquets isn't risked. Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez also sent shots off the post.

Suarez scored his eighth and ninth league goals of the season in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Deportivo, and he might have had a hat-trick if only La Liga had goal-line technology.

As for Deportivo, it was the same XI that started their 1-0 win over Leganes last weekend, with on-loan Arsenal forward Lucas Perez featuring at the tip of their attack. "No team sews up the league in the first round of games".

But while the concept of such technology has always been interpreted as a beneficial one, it hasn't been well received across parts the globe so far.

Instead of taking the effort on himself, Suarez's quick return pass to his fellow South American on the edge of the area allowed the Argentine to dispatch his effort which cannoned back off the crossbar and allowed Branquiazuis to breath again.

The Uruguay international was not to be denied early in the second period, however, as he converted a low Sergi Roberto cross in the 47th minute to send Barcelona three goals ahead at Camp Nou.

And it appears the woodwork pandemic has caught on at the Nou Camp.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation last month confirmed VAR technology will be implemented in La Liga from the start of next season. Suarez hit the post before full-time to make it 25 shots to the frame of the goal - that's as many goals as Atletico Madrid have managed.
