Last year was a banner one for the program: 12.2 million Americans enrolled, including 549,158 from North Carolina (fourth most in the country), and 149,744 in the Triangle.

The open enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace, aka Obamacare, has begun. Don't procrastinate: Healthcare.gov will have to accommodate consumers in a tighter window than last year, and if the web site or call center can't handle the last-minute volume, you risk missing the deadline.
