Klopp hopes Liverpool transfer target has a tough time at Anfield

Southampton travels to Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend and Pellegrino has not ruled out Jurgen Klopp's men making a renewed bid for Van Dijk.

The Reds had to publicly apologise for any 'misunderstandings' that may have been caused with the Saints and van Dijk eventually returned to the starting XI, after missing the first few games of the season, having put in a transfer request.

This comes according to Daily Mirror, who claim that the Dutch defender could be available come the arrival of that window, with Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino unable to confirm that Van Dijk will still be at the club come February.

Asked if Van Dijk should expect a difficult afternoon, Klopp replied: "You really expect an answer?" The manner has been as dispiriting as the numbers and if the structural failings and set-piece difficulties mean it is simplistic to suggest one player would have been a panacea for all their problems, it is evident Liverpool required a top-class centre-back more than, say, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

"The club urges that the privacy of Jürgen, his family and other patients is respected while attending hospital visits". The budget is to sign players and the biggest teams have got money to try to sign players.

Now we made the surgery, it is clear that he will be back round about and that's good. And for the third point? "With Sadio, we have to wait and we will see today".

Lallana was an integral part of Liverpool's improved form last year and contributed 8 goals and 8 assists in his 35 appearances playing midfield. "I am 50 now so maybe I need to get used to it, but that's twice already in a British hospital now".

Van Dijk will be plying his trade at Anfield of one day only.
